Operational Procedures

What this objective covers

Documentation and Support System Best Practices

Objective 4.1 covers the documents an IT function maintains. Each exists to answer a specific question, and the exam tests which document you would consult or create in a given situation.

Exam tip. Ticket quality questions expect clear problem description, categorisation, severity and the resolution recorded. Vague entries are the wrong answer even when the fix was correct.

Change Management Procedures

Objective 4.2 covers applying change management. The recurring theme is that changes are proposed, assessed, approved and reversible - never made straight into production on judgement alone.

Exam tip. The rollback plan is the most tested element. If an answer option involves making a change with no defined way to reverse it, it is wrong.

Safety Procedures and ESD Prevention

Objective 4.4 covers safety. Personal safety always outranks equipment protection, and electrostatic discharge is the most tested equipment hazard.

Exam tip. Any answer involving working inside a power supply or CRT monitor, or wearing an ESD strap while doing so, is wrong. Those are replaced, not repaired in the field.

Environmental Impacts and Controls

Objective 4.5 covers environmental factors and safe disposal. The recurring exam point is that the safety data sheet is the authority for handling and disposal of any material.

Exam tip. If a question asks how to dispose of any consumable or chemical safely, the safety data sheet and local regulations are the correct reference, not general practice.

Prohibited Content, Privacy, Licensing and Policy

Objective 4.6 covers the legal and ethical side of the role, including what to do when you discover prohibited material. The chain of custody is the most tested element.

Exam tip. When a technician discovers prohibited content, the expected answer is always to report it through the proper channel and preserve the evidence, not to delete it or confront the user.

Basic Artificial Intelligence Concepts for Support

The 220-1202 objectives include explaining basic concepts related to artificial intelligence. Support staff need the vocabulary, the data-handling risks, and awareness that generated output requires verification.

Exam tip. Expect questions framed around policy and data handling rather than technical depth. Pasting confidential or customer data into a public tool is always the wrong answer.

Backup Methods, Rotation Schemes and the 3-2-1 Rule

Objective 4.3 covers workstation backup and recovery. Know what each backup type captures, how restore time differs, and why offsite and offline copies matter for ransomware.

Exam tip. Incremental versus differential restore requirements are asked directly and often. Differential needs two sets; incremental needs the whole chain.

Communication Techniques and Professionalism

Objective 4.7 covers professional conduct. These questions have a consistent logic: the respectful, customer-focused answer that avoids assumptions is correct.

Exam tip. Professionalism questions reward restraint. Answers involving arguing, dismissing the user's account, or accessing data beyond the task are always wrong.

Scripting Basics and Their Use Cases

Objective 4.8 covers scripting fundamentals. You need to recognise file extensions, know what scripting is used for, and understand the risks of running scripts.

Exam tip. Extension identification is the most commonly tested scripting fact. Also expect a question on the risk of running an unreviewed script from an untrusted source.

1. An IT department wants to proactively monitor the health and status of hundreds of client computers across multiple client sites, and remotely deploy patches or fixes without visiting each site in person. What category of tool supports this at scale?

  • A. RMM (Remote Monitoring and Management) softwarecorrect
  • B. A single one-off screen-sharing session
  • C. A local cable tester
  • D. A punchdown tool

RMM software is designed for ongoing, centralized monitoring and management of many endpoints simultaneously, including patch deployment, unlike a single manual screen-sharing session used for one-off support. A cable tester and punchdown tool are physical cabling tools unrelated to remote fleet management.

2. An IT department wants to track, assign, and prioritize every user-reported issue from submission through resolution. Which tool is designed specifically for this purpose?

  • A. A surge protector
  • B. A ticketing systemcorrect
  • C. A network diagram
  • D. A backup rotation schedule

A ticketing system logs, tracks, assigns, and prioritizes support requests from creation through resolution, providing accountability and a historical record. A network diagram documents infrastructure layout, a backup rotation schedule governs backup timing, and a surge protector is a physical power protection device, none of which track support issues.
